Sempra unit selects Idaho site for proposed 600-MW coal plant

San Francisco (Platts)--28Apr2005

Sempra Generation has selected a site in Jerome County, Idaho, for the
development of a proposed $1-bil, 600-MW coal-fired power plant, the Sempra
Energy subsidiary said. The Idaho Valley Project would be located on a 640
acre site, about nine miles northeast of the City of Jerome and approximately
three miles east of Highway 93.

The company has optioned sufficient groundwater to meet the plant's total
demand of 7,600 acre-feet per year, it said. The project would be a
zero-wastewater-discharge facility, thereby helping to minimize impacts to the
environment, said Sempra. The facility would also utilize the best available
air-emissions-control technology to ensure that emissions are at or below
levels allowed under federal and state air-quality regulations. As part of a
two-and-a-half-year permitting process, Sempra Generation, through a
special-purpose subsidiary named Idaho Valley LLC, plans to conduct detailed
studies on air emissions, noise, visual impacts, economic benefits and other
issues of interest to the community.
