US House Energy panel approves amendment on halt to SPR fill

Washington (Platts)--12Apr2005

The House Energy and Commerce Committee Tuesday approved an amendment that
would suspend the filling of the US Strategic Petroleum Reserve until oil
prices fall below $40/bbl for two consecutive weeks.

The amendment to the national energy bill being marked up by the committee was
approved by a voice vote. It was proposed by Representative Bart Stupak, a
Michigan Democrat. Whatever bill finally emerges from the committee and is
approved by the full House of Representatives will still need to be reconciled
with the Senate's version later this year.
