Spanish Grain Harvest Seen Down 61 Percent |
SPAIN: August 5, 2005 |
MADRID - Spain's drought-hit grain harvest is expected to weigh in at 7.5 million tonnes, down 61 percent on last year's, farmers' union COAG said on Thursday.
|
The estimate, which excludes the maize crop, are much lower than the latest figures from the Agriculture Ministry, which put the harvest at 9.3 million tonnes. The wheat and barley harvest in Spain -- which is suffering its worst drought on record -- is almost complete, COAG's crop expert Pablo Resco said.
