Northern Lights Supports Renewable Energy

Jun 01 - Bulletin. Northwest Public Power Association

Supporting the production of environmentally friendly electricity is important to all electric utilities, and Northern Lights, Inc. (Sagle, Idaho) has made a commitment to green power.

The co-op has agreed to purchase 50,000 kilowatt hours of environmentally preferred power monthly through the end of 2005, from the Bonneville Power Administration.

This green power is purchased in the form of green "tags" or certificates.

The energy represented by the purchase of green tags is enough to supply about 50 homes a month.

"Purchasing green power for our members allows NLI to support electricity generated by sustainable, renewable power sources that have minimal impact on the earth's natural resources," said NLI General Manager Jon Shelby.

The green power resources NLI purchases from BPA have been endorsed by the Natural Resources Defense Council, the Northwest Energy Coalition and the Renewable Northwest Project.

"Our members can be proud of our cooperative's commitment to clean, renewable energy resources," Shelby said.
