Swiss say Adamov extradition likely - Russian TV

Excerpt from report by Russian NTV on 6 May

[Presenter] Russian diplomats have talked to [former Atomic Energy Minister] Yevgeniy Adamov for the first time since his arrest. [Passage omitted: previously reported details]

[Correspondent Dmitriy Pogorzhelskiy, by phone from Bern] He [Adamov] says that everything that is being done against him is a provocation and that he will defend himself here in Switzerland using all available means. He refuses to undergo a simplified extradition process, in other words, he doesn't agree to be handed over to the USA. He has three lawyers: an American one, a Swiss one and a Russian one whom he has clearly already met.

Adamov asked to be brought some newspapers and works of fiction. Unfortunately, we didn't manage to find out what books he asked for. His detention conditions are OK. He has a single cell and has no complaints or special requests regarding his detention.

Today we also managed to meet the head of the Extradition Section of the Swiss Federal Office of Justice, who, to put it simply, will take the decision on whether to extradite Adamov. He confirmed that Adamov had refused to undergo the simplified extradition process. However, the fact that he was arrested suggests that the chances of extradition are quite high. That is what Mr [Erwin] Jenni, the head of the Extradition Section, said. That is all the news so far.
