US coal production rises by 787,000 tons in week ending April 30

The US Energy Information Administration said that 21.8-mil tons of coal were
produced in the US the week ended Apr 30. That is up 787,000 tons from
21.0-mil tons the previous week. Year-to-date production was up 0.3% to
368.4-mil tons from 367.3-mil tons at the same time in 2004. 

The Appalachian region produced 7.7-mil tons, the interior produced 2.8-mil
tons and the West produced 11.3-mil tons, EIA said. All were up from the
previous week's production of 7.3-mil tons, 2.7-mil tons and 10.9-mil tons
respectively. Year-to-date production of 126.9-mil tons in the Appalachian
region was down 3.6% from 131.7-mil for the same period in 2004. But the
interior and the West continue to show year-to-date increases. Interior
production stands at 49.9-mil tons, up 2.8% from 48.5-mil tons in 2004, while
the West has produced 191.6-mil tons, a 2.4% increase from 187.1-mil tons at
the same time in 2004.
