The unit involved is the Shenhua coal direct liquefaction project, which is the core unit of China's first coal direct liquefaction, the world's largest production capacity. 

The plant was jointly licensed to Shenhua Group, Five Rings Science and Technology Co Ltd, and China Chemical Engineering Group Inc. Shenhua coal direct liquefaction project has a production capacity of 3 M tonnes/y of oil products. 

Construction will be progressed in two phases, the first phase of 1 M tonnes/y will come onstream in Oct 2007. 

The unit utilises two production lines each producing 313 tonnes/day tonnes of pure hydrogen, with process technology from Shell.
