MIAMI, Nov 06, 2005 -- BUSINESS WIRE

Florida Power & Light Company announced that its restoration team from 33 states and Canada has restored power to 2,980,000 customers - or about 92 percent of customers affected by Hurricane Wilma.

The company remains on track for 95 percent of its customers being restored by November 8.

The restoration team continues to work at the neighborhood level -- in many instances on a house-by-house, pole-by-pole basis - and has converged on the tri-county area.

Here is an overview of where the remainder of the restoration stands:

-- In Palm Beach County, the areas of Belle Glade, Pahokee and South Bay will be essentially restored by end of day Nov. 11. All other areas in Palm Beach County south of PGA Blvd., by end of day Nov. 9.

-- In Broward, the area west and south of I-75 will be essentially restored by end of day Nov. 9. North of I-595 and west of University Dr., by end of day Nov. 9. All other areas in Broward County, by end of day Nov. 13.

-- In Miami-Dade, the area north of SW 8th St. will be essentially restored by end of day Nov. 11. Between SW 8th St. and SW 88th St., end of day Nov. 10. Miami Beach south of 79th St., end of day Nov. 10. All areas south of SW 88th St., end of day Nov. 8.

The great majority of these customers will have power restored well before the estimated dates.

To expedite restoration, customers are encouraged to give crews the right of way as they move about the area to restore power and to refrain from stopping crews to ask questions about the restoration process.

FPL continues to encourage customers to be especially vigilant about safety.

-- Only a licensed electrician should connect a generator to a main electric panel to avoid feeding power back to a damaged power line, which can cause potentially deadly injuries. A licensed electrician should also be used to disconnect a generator from a main panel when power is restored.

-- Be aware that downed power lines may be concealed by vegetation. Consider any line you see to be energized - and please stay away.

-- If you see a downed line and feel it presents a clear and imminent danger to you or others, call 911 or FPL at 1-800-4OUTAGE. If you have called to report a downed line once, you don't need to report it again.

Counties that show no customers out are "essentially restored." It is possible that a small number of customers in these counties still do not have electricity. If this is the case at your home or business, please call FPL at 1-800-4OUTAGE so we can get your electricity back on as quickly as possible.
