Louisiana's onshore oil, gas production shows little improvement

Washington (Platts)--18Oct2005
Onshore and shallow-water oil and natural gas production in Louisiana
picked up slightly Tuesday, the state's Dept of Natural Resources reported.
The DNR said estimated oil production increased to 55,756 bbls/d, or
27.5% of pre-storm production level of 203,138 bbls/d. On Monday, the agency
had restored oil production at 25.5% of the pre-storm total. Gas production
increased by less than one-half of a percentage point over Monday, the DNR
said, with the state's wells producing 765,000 Mcf/d, or 34.2% of normal daily
production of 2.235 Bcf/d.
As of Tuesday, 27%, or 1,609 of the state's 5,949 wells have been reported
returned to production, the DNR said. Another 2,811 wells, or 47%, remain
shut-in after the twin hurricanes and 26%, or 1,529 wells, have yet to report
their status, DNR reported.
The state agency's survey covers a 38-parish region that includes the
entire southern half of the Louisiana.
Only two of Louisiana's intrastate pipeline operators said they were
reopened at full capacity, while 11 reported partial operations and 40 said
they were completely shut-in, the DNR reported. The agency said it hasn't been
able to contact two operators nearly three weeks after the storms had passed.
