MIAMI, Oct 27, 2005 -- BUSINESS WIRE

Early into the third day of round-the-clock restoration following Hurricane Wilma, Florida Power & Light Company said it has brought electric service back to 1.1 million customers - nearly one-third of the approximately 3.2 million customers left without power.

Yesterday as announced, restoration of service was made to essentially all customers in Manatee, Sarasota, Charlotte and DeSoto counties and Brevard County on the east coast. The company expects to see significant progress in the third full day of restoration today. More than 8,200 workers have been mobilized to restore power, with another 2,600 arriving continuously throughout the weekend and Monday.

The company announced county-level restoration times yesterday. While thousands of customers are expected to get their electric service back during each day of the restoration, the company said the majority of customers in all other FPL areas will have power restored by November 8. Some 95 percent of customers in these areas should have power back no later than November 15. The company emphasized that most customers will have power restored well before these dates.
