Eight Toyota manufacturing facilities in North America have reduced the amount of waste going to landfills by at least 95 percent compared with 1999 levels, the company said.

And 82 percent of the waste generated by Toyota´s U.S. operations last year was diverted from landfills, the company said.

Toyota is touting those numbers as part of its fifth annual Environmental Report for North America.

"As Toyota continues to grow and invest in North America, we constantly search for new ways to be environmentally responsible in all areas of our operations," said Dennis Cuneo, senior vice president of Toyota Motor North America Inc.
