ExxonMobil has taken delivery of 610,000 bbl of SPR crude: DOE

Washington (Platts)--7Sep2005
ExxonMobil has accepted 610,000 bbl of the total 6-mil bbl of sweet
crude from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve the major was loaned by the
government to keep its Baton Rouge, Louisiana, refining complex operating
after Hurricane Katrina, a US Department of Energy spokesman said
Wednesday.
The spokesman said the company has received two shipments: 290,000 bbl
completed on Sep 5 and 320,000 bbl completed on Sep 6. Additional shipments
have not yet been scheduled, he said.
Meanwhile, Atlantic Trading & Marketing, the trading arm of Total, has
taken the 600,000 bbl of SPR sour crude it was awarded Friday. Deliveries
began Sep 3 and were completed Sep 4, DOE said in a statement.
DOE awarded six refiners a total of 12.6-mil bbl of SPR crude under the
loan program. The program is distinct from a 30-mil bbl sale the US is making
from the SPR as part of its contribution to a larger 60-mil bbl crude and
product release coordinated by the Paris-based International Energy Agency.
DOE said BP, which was awarded a 2-mil bbl sweet crude SPR loan, would
begin to take delivery on Sep 9. Marathon, which was awarded 1-mil bbl of
sweet SPR crude and 500,000 bbl sour SPR crude, is expected to begin taking
deliveries on Sep 7, DOE added.
Deliveries to Placid Refining (1-mil bbl of sweet SPR crude) and Valero
(1.5-mil bbl of sweet SPR crude) are both slated to begin delivery on Sep 9,
according to the notice.
Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast states of Louisiana and Mississippi
Aug 29, disrupting supplies and forcing the closure of many retail outlets.
