Mexico City, Sep 27, 2005 -- EFE

Mexican Energy Secretary Fernando Elizondo submitted his resignation to President Vicente Fox on Tuesday, a government spokesman told EFE.

Elizondo had been in his job 15 months, appointed after Felipe Calderon resigned over political differences with Fox.

Providing no reason for the resignation, the spokesman said the president's office might announce Elizondo's successor within the next few hours.

On Monday, Agriculture Secretary Javier Usabiaga also tendered his resignation, which the president is studying, sources in Fox's office said.

In addition, Fox is expected to name a successor to Public Safety Secretary Ramon Martin Huerta, who was killed in a plane accident last week. EFE
