Shell evacuates US Gulf workers ahead of Tropical Storm Rita

New York (Platts)--19Sep2005
Royal Dutch Shell has begun evacuating non-essential personnel from its
offshore US Gulf of Mexico facilities as a precaution because of Tropical
Storm Rita, the company said Monday in an update posted on its website.
Shell said that it had already evacuated 195 non-essential personnel on
Sunday, and that another 350 non-essential personnel "are planned to be
evacuated today." Shell did not indicate that any of its current production in
the region had yet been affected by the storm.
Rita early Monday was moving toward the Florida Keys, and was on a path
toward the Gulf of Mexico. On its current path, it appeared likely headed for
Mexico or westernmost Texas, although its eventual path was far from certain.
