Iowa Ethanol Coop to Double
Production

Over the past 18 months the Midwest Grain Processors Cooperative (MGP)
has produced 50 million gallons of fuel grade ethanol. Business has been
so good that the coop has plans to double the annual capacity of their
dry-mill plant by the summer of 2005. They process 17 million bushels of
corn to make both their annual ethanol capacity and 145,000 tons of
distiller's grain for livestock feed. MGP has 38 employees and plans to
hire 10 more full-time employees for operations at the larger facility.
Construction to allow for the expanded production will begin in the
fall. MGP is owned by 1,000 farmers who are primarily from Iowa,
Illinois and Minnesota, and are committed to producing high value fuel,
feed and other products from their corn. |
