Fuel Cell Fleet in Chrysler's Reach

December 10, 2004

[RenewableEnergyAccess.com] California and Michigan can't get enough of their fuel cell cars, apparently. DaimlerChrysler said it doubled the amount of fuel cell vehicles that it currently manages in the United States with 19 Mercedes F-Cell passenger cars and medium-duty Dodge Fuel Cell Sprinter Vans that are destined for customers in the two states. The company has partnered with Ford Motor Company and Ballard Power Systems on the development of their vehicles. While DaimlerChrysler says that fuel cell technology has reached a new milestone along the road to market maturity with their delivery of fuel cell vehicles to customers in the United States, Germany, Japan and Singapore, fuel cell vehicles as a whole have not reached the level of commercial maturity that hybrid-electric vehicles now enjoy. Cost-effective fuel cell cars, and an adequate hydrogen production and delivery infrastructure are still far off.
