Sen. Lieberman calls for new vote on emissions bill

Sen. Joe Lieberman, D-Conn., called on fellow lawmakers Monday to pass the Lieberman-McCain Climate Stewardship Act, which would require a reduction in carbon dioxide emission levels to 2000 levels by the year 2010. The senator said the United States must curb its consumption of foreign oil and reduce greenhouse emissions, speaking at an energy summit hosted by former President Bill Clinton. "It's time to think beyond oil and realize there are cleaner more efficient energy sources," Lieberman said. The Lieberman-McCain bill failed to receive a majority of support in a Senate vote in October 2003.
