Falling dollar makes coal attractive

London (Platts)--23Dec2004

A German utility source said falling US dollar exchange rates, (the dollar has
lost around 40% of its value against the European single currency since 2002)
had made coal prices more attractive. We are covered until next May, but may
decide to buy spot coal in January if the US dollar/euro exchange rate
continues its downward trend, as this makes the CIF ARA price cheaper in
euros, the source said.
