Salt River Project Offers Net Metering to Residential
Customers
Salt River Project (SRP), a utility that
provides electricity to nearly 800,000 retail customers in the Phoenix area, now
offers net metering to residential customers with PV systems up to 10 kW. This
policy took effect June 1, 2004. Net excess generation is purchased monthly by
SRP at the average monthly market price minus a price adjustment of
$0.00017/kWh. The price adjustment of $0.00017/kWh represents the cost incurred
by SRP for scheduling, system control, and dispatch services. An interconnection
agreement is required for net metering. For more information, view SRP's
Interconnection Guidelines for Distributed Generators.
Another Arizona utility, Tucson
Electric Power Company (TEP), offers net metering for solar and wind systems
with a maximum capacity of 10 kW. TEP credits net excess generation
to the following month's bill.
SRP consists of two entities: the Salt River Project Agricultural Improvement
and Power District, a political subdivision of the state of Arizona; and the
Salt River Valley Water Users' Association, a private corporation. Based in
Phoenix, SRP was established in 1903 as the nation's first multi-purpose
reclamation project authorized under the National Reclamation Act. It operates
or participates in seven major power plants and numerous other generating
stations, including thermal, nuclear and hydroelectric sources.
