Sempra eyes Mexico, Louisiana LNG project building starts in Q3

Houston (Platts)--27May2004

Sempra LNG, a unit of Sempra Energy, is slated to begin construction on its
two LNG import terminals -- Costa Azul in Baja California, Mexico and Cameron
LNG in southwest Louisiana -- in the third quarter, Darcel Hulse, president of
the LNG unit, said Thursday. "We expect site demolition...this month" at
Cameron, a 1.5 Bcf/d, $700-mil project, Hulse said in a presentation at the
"LNG North America" conference. Sempra is taking bids for construction of the
plant, which is located on Louisiana's Calcasieu Channel near the Trunkline
LNG receiving terminal owned by Southern Union. Cameron LNG will have two
berths to be able to receive greater LNG volumes. "The...vessels we're talking
about are the same draft as a 138,000 cu meter ship; they're just wider and
longer, and have twin propulsion systems," he said.
