UK government provides extra $4-mil of funding for solar power

London (Platts)--14Jun2004

The UK Government is to provide a further GBP2.2-mil ($4-mil) of funding for
solar power schemes, Energy Minister Stephen Timms said Monday. Some 24
projects are to receive funding in 11 regions, he said. The funding is part of
a government program for medium to large (5-100kW) scale solar electric power
installations and part of its GBP25-mil Major Photovoltaics Demonstration
Programme. "This latest successful round is further proof of the growing
appeal of solar power in the UK," Timms said. "To date this government has
awarded GBP15-mil worth of grants to various projects. The growth and
development of the solar power industry will help take us a step closer to
achieving our renewable energy target of 10% of electricity by 2010."
