US Senate Republicans schedule their version of 'energy week'

Washington (Platts)--8Jun2004

US Senate Republicans will join their House colleagues in refocusing attention
on energy policy next week with their own version of an "energy week," Senate
Energy and Natural Resources Committee Chairman Pete Domenici (Republican-New
Mexico) told reporters Tuesday. The committee rescheduled for June 15 a
hearing on oil and gas market conditions.

Domenici said he appreciates House concerns over the Senate's failure to move
a House-passed comprehensive energy bill and its worries that the Senate may
take a piecemeal approach to energy legislation. The House leadership "is
saying we can't get what we want through the Senate and therefore we want the
American people to know that we care and we're worried about energy," he said.
"I don't think they're going to blame Republicans in the Senate. They may be
talking about why can't the other party get it done," he added in reference to
Senate Democrats. The Senate, which has a slimmer majority margin, is "a
different body" than the House, Domenici said. "Everything we propose is
filibustered."
