Danish energy industry sets renewables target of 30% by 2025

London (Platts)--22Nov2004

Denmark's energy industry has set itself the target to increase the share of
energy from renewable sources in the Danish energy sector to 30% by 2025 from
the current 12%, a group of industry associations decided over the weekend.
The target was set at the Energy Camp, held Nov 18-20, where 48 selected
energy officials came up with an ambitious agenda for the Danish energy
system. The results from the meeting will be presented to the Danish
government, which in March 2005 will present its own energy policy for the
years until 2025. The camp also decided that energy consumption should be
decreased by 15% and that 25% off energy consumption in the transport sector
should come from renewables. The industry's energy efficiency should increase
by at least 30% by 2025. All these actions taken together should lead to a
reduction in CO2 emissions by 50% compared with the 1991 level of 75.4-mil mt.
The 48 officials were picked from the association of Danish energy companies,
the Danish windpower association, Danish metal, the Danish heating association
and Danish engineers.
