Electricity demand to reach 904-mil MWh in Q4, US EIA says

Washington (Platts)--9Nov2004

Total demand for electricity is expected to reach 904-mil MWh in the fourth
quarter of 2004, the US Energy Information Administration said Tuesday in its
short-term energy outlook. That is a slight reduction from the 911.4-mil MWh
EIA predicted for Q4 demand in last month's report, with industrial and retail
demand declining and commercial demand projected to see a slight gain. Total
generation in Q4 is expected to be 952.4-mil MWh, with 125.9-bil MWh coming
from gas-fired generation and 493.1-mil MWh coming from coal-fired plants, EIA
said. With the exception of coal-fired generation, those figures were
reductions from last month's report, when EIA predicted total generation in Q4
of 959.5-mil MWh, with 132.1-mil MWh from gas-fired plants and 492.1-mil MWh
coming from coal. Electricity imports also saw a projected decline in Q4, from
1.3-mil MWh to 600,000 MWh, EIA said.
