Saudis slip to No 2 spot behind Canada on US crude import ladder

London (Platts)--16Nov2004

Saudi Arabia slipped back to second place behind Canada on the US crude import
ladder for September, data released Monday by the US Energy Information
Administration showed. Crude imports from Saudi Arabia dropped to 1.567-mil
b/d in September from August's 1.755-mil b/d which had taken the kingdom back
to the number one spot for the first time since November 2003.

Canada supplied
1.711-mil b/d of crude--its "highest average ever"--in September, up almost
200,000 b/d from August's 1.512-mil b/d which had put it in third place.
Mexico was the third biggest supplier of crude to the US in September with
1.527-mil b/d, down from August's 1.588-mil b/d which had put it in second
place. Venezuela and Nigeria maintained their fourth and fifth place positions
with 1.07-mil b/d and 1.012-mil b/d respectively, although volumes from both
countries were lower than the previous month's 1.194-mil b/d and 1.168-mil
b/d. Iraq easily held onto sixth place but its 623,000 b/d average for
September was 193,000 b/d down from August's 816,000 b/d.
