Harbor Research Announces New Study of the Pervasive Internet

Harbor Research, Inc., a provider of strategic consulting and research services to technology suppliers and adopters, has made its latest Pervasive Internet study available, titled "Connecting to Your Future: The Networking of Every Manufactured Thing." Designed for both suppliers and adopters, the study provides a comprehensive blueprint for taking advantage of Pervasive Internet business opportunities.

The study offers a complete portrayal of the adoption climate, technology issues, business models and revenue opportunities arising from the convergence of device networking, wireless sensors, machine-to-machine (M2M) communication and the Internet. As part of the study, Harbor Research has identified four major business models that companies are using to take advantage of the Pervasive Internet. These four models, the Embedded Innovator, the Solutionist, the Synergist and the Aggregator, are described in detail and are presented with numerous examples of products and services that were built around these models. In addition, the study provides market information about how particular industries and verticals are using which models. Industries surveyed include: Buildings, Medical, Residential, Consumer, Industrial, Energy, Retail, Transportation, Government and Security.

"The Pervasive Internet is unleashing an age of living intelligence enabled by networked devices," said Glen Allmendinger, president of Harbor Research. "Companies are creating new business opportunities for themselves and their partners. Our research shows that choosing the right business model can have a dramatic effect on the business results from a Pervasive Internet project. Knowing which business model to use and how to use it is becoming increasingly important for maintaining a competitive market position. Companies that can master these skills in the near-term will be strategically positioned for growth."

The study is available immediately from Harbor Research. In addition to the study content, Harbor Research is offering an included briefing to assist purchasers in applying the study's results to their own business opportunities.
