[RenewableEnergyAccess.com] With visions of a future hydrogen economy, scientists around the world have thrown themselves headlong into a wide-variety of hydrogen research projects. The latest effort through a partnership between Japan's Hiroshima University, the Shimadzu Corporation and Sapporo Breweries has resulted in a new process to create hydrogen from bread. Called Hydrogen Methane Two-Stage Fermentation, the latest technology generates hydrogen from discarded bread highly efficiently. By properly controlling fermentation, the technology can produce biohydrogen and methane separately. The biohydrogen that is generated does not contain sulfur, and is usable in fuel cells. The industry-academia group will conduct further research with the aim of commercializing the technology using a pilot testing facility beginning in mid-October.
