Nuclear protest continues

brief description of imageGreenpeace has continued the protest against the US shipment of plutonium in Northern France, by blocking the main road that is due to be used by the controversial convoy on its arrival today.

A truck - with ‘Stop Plutonium’ emblazed on its side - has been bolted and secured to the D901 between the Cherbourg military port and the state nuclear company facility in the la Hague peninsula. The plutonium is to be taken to the Areva/Cogema plant, before being transported more than 1200km to Cadarache for processing.

"International efforts to stop the spread of nuclear weapons materials have been high-jacked by the commercial plutonium industry. This plutonium shipment is part of an industry plan to expand the trade in bomb material and must be stopped,” said Tom Clements of Greenpeace International.
