Report Targets Energy Waste

A BPIF-commissioned report aims to highlight ways of reducing energy consumption and costs, at a time when some companies face price increases of 60%.

The Printing Sector Energy Audit Summary Report was produced by government-funded programme Action Energy.

Compiled by consultant Raymond Babb, the report highlights energy saving opportunities that can be implemented with ease, at little or no cost.

These include the setting up of a structured approach to energy management and conservation, which could achieve overall savings of 15% and the introduction of energy awareness campaigns, which can save as much as 10%.

Further savings can be made by the shutting down of machinery when not in use, estimated to provide savings of 2%.

BPIF commercial products manager Steve Walker said the study was particularly timely given a number of BPIF members had reported possible energy price increases of around 60%.

Although shopping through energy brokers to get best prices can mitigate this, Walker said this would offer permanent immunity to further increases.
