Calif. San Onofre 3 nuke seen online this weekend

LOS ANGELES, Jan 29 (Reuters)

The 1,080 megawatt Unit 3 at the San Onofre nuclear power plant in Southern California should be back at full power over the weekend after repairs on a piping system are complete, a plant spokesman said on Thursday.

The unit was taken down on Saturday evening while maintenance was conducted on a piping system. It is not expected to return to the grid before the weekend.

The San Onofre station is in San Clemente, about 60 miles (96 kilometers) north of San Diego.

The plant is operated by the Edison International unit Southern California Edison, which has a 75 percent stake.

Sempra Energy subsidiary San Diego Gas & Electric has a 20 percent stake, while public utilities in the California cities of Riverside and Anaheim own the balance.
