APS Four Corners 4 coal plant shut for work

NEW YORK, April 15 (Reuters)

Arizona Power Public Service Co. said on Thursday it shut the 750-megawatt Four Corners 4 coal-fired power unit in New Mexico to fix a tube leak.

A company spokeswoman told Reuters the unit would likely remain down for less than a week.

In addition to the coal-fired unit 4, the station's 220 MW unit 3 has been shut for spring maintenance since early April.

Electricity traders said coal units usually remain shut for about a month for spring maintenance to prepare for the busy summer air conditioning season.

There are five units at the Four Corners station, including the 170 MW units 1 and 2, the 220 MW unit 3 and two 740 MW units 4 and 5.

APS, a subsidiary of Pinnacle West Capital Corp. , operates the station and fully owns units 1, 2 and 3.

Units 4 and 5 are owned by Edison International's Southern California Edison Co. (48 percent), APS (15 percent), PNM Resources Inc.'s Public Service Co. of New Mexico (13 percent), Salt River Project (10 percent), El Paso Electric Co. (7 percent) and UniSource Energy Corp.'s Tucson Electric Power Co. (7 percent).
