Green glow for lighting

Apr 12 - South Wales Echo

Bridgend county will be glowing green when the council switches to sustainable energy to power street lights from today.

A spokeswoman said as part of the authority's pledge to use more renewable energy it has, along with its partners in the South Wales Street Lighting Consortium, negotiated with Swalec to purchase 'green' electricity to power the county's street lights.

Cabinet member for the environment and technical services Coun Colin Teesdale said: 'The quote received was cheaper than that for conventional energy generated by fossil fuel power stations.

'This changeover will not only save taxpayers' money, but also help our environment.'
