Eighteen power plant units will be launched up to March 2005 marking the end of Iranian calendar year, an official said.

Abdol-Hossein Fazlollahi, a senior official at the Power Distribution Company, told that nine units of Damavand Power Plant will come on stream in the period. He said that the country will see a boost in its power generation once the units are launched.

The third unit of Damavand Mixed Cycle Power Station has launched work to generate 159 MW per hour of electricity. The first and second units of Damavand -- the biggest mixed cycle power station in the country -- were launched last year.

Damavand incorporates 12 gas units each generating 159 MW per hour and six steam units each generating 90 MW per hour of electricity. Once operational, Damavand will generate 2,800 MW of power. Other power plants are located in Hormuzgan, Sanadaj and Sahand.
