Sempra plans LNG terminal near Port Arthur, Texas

New York (Platts)--21Apr2004

Sempra Energy Wednesday said it plans to develop a 1.5 Bcf/d liquefied natural
gas receiving terminal near Port Arthur, Texas. The $600-mil facility would be
built on a 3,000-acre parcel along the Port Arthur Ship Canal owned by Sempra
since 1989, the company said in a statement. Sempra said it has also submitted
a pre-filing notification to the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for
the plant.
Construction is due to begin in 2006, with operations to start in
2009. The terminal would have three, 160,000 cu m storage tanks and two
unloading berths, and would be capable of doubling both its storage capacity
and throughput capacity, Sempra said.
The San Diego, California-based company is also developing the 1.5 Bcf/d Cameron LNG terminal near Lake Charles,
Louisiana, and the 1 Bcf/d Costa Azul terminal, along with Shell, in Baja
California, Mexico. The Cameron project was the first LNG project to gain FERC
approval in 25 years. It was sold by Dynegy Midstream Services to Sempra in
May 2003. Both projects are to start operations in late 2007, Sempra said.
