US regular gasoline hits new record high at $1.813/gal: EIA

Washington (Platts)--19Apr2004

US retail regular grade gasoline prices rose 2.7 cts/gal over the past week to
average $1.813/gal as of Monday, another fresh record for nominal gasoline
prices, the US Energy Information Administration reported in its weekly
update. Nationwide average pump prices are now 23.9 cts/gal higher than a year
ago, although they are still well shy of the US' all-time inflation-adjusted
highs near $3.00/gal in 1981 and the pump prices regularly seen in Europe.
Average prices in every region of the US hit new nominal highs. West Coast
prices, still the strongest in the nation, inched up 0.9 ct/gal to $2.088/gal.
Rocky Mountain pump prices jumped 5.4 cts/gal to average $1.858/gal, while
Midwest prices gained 4.1 cts/gal to $1.778/gal. East Coast regular retail
prices were up 1.7 cts/gal to a $1.757/gal average. Gulf Coast prices
increased 3.7 cts/gal to $1.70/gal.
