Xantrex Introduces 100 kW Grid Connect Inverter

"Xantrex has more than 95% market share for three-phase solar installations in North America and we're looking forward to expanding into new markets with our three-phase products."

- Andreas Vondung, Managing Director of Xantrex in Europe

Barcelona, Spain, March 12, 2004 [SolarAccess.com] Xantrex Technology, a worldwide supplier of power electronic and control products, has developed a 100 kW three-phase utility interactive inverter for the European solar energy market.

The GT100E is based on Xantrex' current platform, which is used in grid-connect photovoltaic (PV) and wind turbine applications in North America and Europe. In the last decade, Xantrex has installed more than 2000 MW of power conversion capacity based on this platform.

"We are excited to use our extensive experience with megawatt PV installations to introduce a new product in Europe where the adoption rate of renewable energy systems is so high," said Andreas Vondung, Managing Director of Xantrex in Europe. "Xantrex has more than 95% market share for three-phase solar installations in North America and we're looking forward to expanding into new markets with our three-phase products."

Designed to be easy to install and operate, the Xantrex GT100E automates start-up, shutdown, and fault detection. The unit incorporates advanced Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) Technology to maximize the energy harvested from a PV array. To reduce power losses during the conversion process, the GT100E's state-of-the-art switching technology uses insulated gate bi-polar transistors (IGBT). Multiple inverters may be paralleled for larger power installations.

The GT100E is designed to meet all CE requirements. Initial units have been produced at the Xantrex facility in Livermore California. The company plans to transfer manufacturing to Europe in 2004. A customer service network, based in Germany and Spain, will provide installation and commissioning support, product training, and a hotline for maintenance service across Europe. Xantrex has conducted extensive testing at sites in Germany and Spain prior to shipping commercial products.

The GT100E offers standard protection features including over and under voltage and frequency safeguards. Its anti-islanding protection prevents the inverter from feeding power to the grid in the event of a utility outage. The GT100E comes with user interface software for real time communication via PC directly, or via modem connected to the inverter. With user-definable power tracking that matches the inverter to the array and adjustable delay periods, users are able to customize system start up and shut down sequences.

The GT100E comes with a standard warranty that covers parts and labor for two years. As an introductory offer, Xantrex will extend the warranty to five years.
