Australia may eventually get its electricity from geothermal power. The hot rocks explorer, Geodynamics, has found a geothermal resource in South Australia's Cooper Basin, which it says can generate huge amounts of electricity. Adrian Williams, of Geodynamics, notes that the resource contains the hottest rocks on earth. A geothermal power supply gains heat from granite rocks stored deep under the earth heating water to drive turbines. Geothermal energy is already being used in other parts of the globe. Experts claim it could generate up to 10% of Australia's electricity needs by 2030. There are around 16 companies in Australia working on geothermal energy.
