Power plants ship out energy

The reasons I've heard for this new power plant are the same reasons given for the other power plants that have been built in this region. They have all been in the name of addressing the growing energy needs of Mohave County.

The newly proposed Northern Arizona Energy LLC Project is designed to address a particular energy need, that of peak demand. I support generation in Mohave County, both base load and peaking. However, at the meeting I attended about this new project, I asked the representatives from the Griffith Energy Project how much electricity they have sold to date, if any, in Mohave County. When they said that they didn't have the specifics, I asked for a ballpark ... have you sold any electricity in Mohave County? They said they could not answer the question.

I believe the public has the right to understand that these independent power producers sell to the highest bidder, and the peaking power will not be any different. With these facilities in the area, transmitting their power to another region where the highest bidder is, they are using transmission capacity that may not be used to import power into Mohave County simultaneously.

There certainly are economic reasons and voltage control/stability reasons for having power plants in our area. But, to portray these type of facilities as answers to our energy needs is deceitful at best.

I think the public has the right to know how these facilities conduct business, which is to sell to the highest bidder at any given time.

I appreciate this opportunity to comment on this issue.
