History Channel calls Rumpke landfill ´Modern Marvel´Nov. 1 -- A Rumpke Consolidated Companies Inc. landfill will be featured on an upcoming episode of the television show "Modern Marvels," the company said. The History Channel show recently visited the Pendleton County landfill in Butler, Ky., to film scenes for an upcoming episode titled "The War on Stink," Rumpke said. The show, scheduled to appear next year, explores the science behind controlling odors, the company said. A key way Rumpke controls odors at the landfill is through a gas collection system that was built in 2007, the company said. "Modern day landfills are a far cry from the old-fashioned dumps," said Jay Roberts, director of engineering for Rumpke, in a statement. "Landfills are highly engineered to protect the environment from our trash, and many of the environmental safeguards we have in place to protect the environment also help control odors."
