After surveying 50 energy experts, the Brattle Group
found that energy efficiency improvements could cause
electricity consumption in the US to drop by 5 to 15 percent
by 2020 (compared to forecast trends). Further, electric
peak demand could decrease by 7.5 to 15 percent.
According to Brattle, efficiency improvement will be
driven by increasing electricity costs, innovative rate
programs, technological advances, and an overall shift in
American values and behavior.
Dynamic pricing programs are predicted to gain between
7.5 to 20 percent acceptance among residential consumers,
while participation among commercial and industrial
consumers could range from 10 to 30 percent.
