Payne City, Ga., says no to medical waste facilitySept. 8 -- Following heavy local opposition, a city in Georgia has turned away a proposed medical waste facility, the Telegraph of Macon, Ga. reported. Payne City, located 82 miles south of Atlanta, turned down the proposal from MedSafe. The company had been proposing to install a chlorine-based medical waste treatment plant, which would have treated syringes, waste from infected animals and infected cultures and stocks, the newspaper reported. In rejecting the plant, the city said the land use was incompatible; trucks would damage area roads; and the facility would have used an unproven technology.
